Our Water Babies

Sea BreezesKatie and I took her (my) babies to the pool this weekend. It took us two hours, including travel time, to get to the pool, including two stops for swim diapers (I was supposed to do that beforehand..oops). I lie, it probably took us three to four hours to ready and get there. Babies had to be nursed, eat breakfasts, change diapers, nap, change diapers, changed, bags packed, put in carseats, go back for what we forgot...the list goes on. We FINALLY arrived at the pool. Twenty minutes later, maybe it was 30, after we had put babies in swim diapers and swimsuits, we were in the pool. Twenty minutes later, we were back out of the pool. Thirty minutes later we were showered, diapered, dressed and back into the car. But the part I want to focus on is the in the pool part. The pictures are foggy because the pool was indoor, heated to a warm 84 degrees and the camera lens fogged. Of course, I did not think to wipe the lens, as my smart alec husband asked later why I did not simply think to do that. Read the above again and you will know why that did not occur to me at the time. Back to the pool part. Both babies are natural swimmers. How do I know? I just know. They move in the water like fish, don't mind getting faces wet or going under. Kennedy can already do a flutter kick from the hip with a nice "pretty leg" and pointed toe. Her mother showed her how to begin her freestyle stroke and even showed her the stroke recovery phase. Let's face it, with a mother who grew up on a pool deck, was swimming at one, jumping off the board at two, a competitive swimmer, lifeguard and swimming teacher, a grandmother who would rather swim than eat, who can't remember not being able to swim and also teaches swimming, the babies don't stand a chance of not loving water. They had a blast. Little Whit kicked his arms and legs and splashed and splashed. Katie discovered two babies need four arms in the water. She only has two. Both babies worked with the kick board too. They are precious little fish. Kennedy jumped right off the side. popped under and back up with a smile on her face. Water babies, they are indeed. Watching my daughter all weekend, I realized that she is amazing. I don't know how she does what she does, but she does it with grace, elegance and a smile on her face. I get tired just watching her meet the demands of two little ones. We had a lovely weekend. Does anyone know where I can buy a size nine months and a size two toddler speedo?
