Summer Breezes

Sea BreezesI have finally let go of my spring fever and have welcomed summer breezes. Summer is dancing into our country yard, keeping time with gentle sea breezes. Deep green ferns cherish their place of honor on the front porch and come alive as they sway and turn to the breezy summer beat. Even the porch cat seems busy getting ready for summer porch catting, checking out all the garden tools, bags of topsoil and potting supplies. The Spanish moss seems bigger and better this summer as it hangs like long grey beards and joins the summer dance. I have begun what I call "nursery stalking" which is simply hanging out at every nursery in a 25 mile radius of my yard coveting one of every plant I see. I love summer. I love gardening, swimming, pool sitting, porch sitting, swing sitting, flip flops, beach bumming, and floating on the river. I love grand babies barefooted and covered with sunscreen. I love late nights on the screen porch sipping chilled wine and feeling the gentle hum of a fan whirling overhead. I love weekend breakfasts on the porch smelling sweet jasmine and sipping warm coffee. I love summer Sunday mornings at church when my sundress feels just right in the summer heat. Oh, yes, I raised my children to love summer, and they all still enjoy the shear joy of summer days and long evenings. My mother used to say our children were"brown as berries." We lived at the swimming pool and spent many a summer evening eating watermelon and home made ice cream.
So, summer brings memories of pleasant past summers as I , like my country yard, grab a partner and dance into the summer breezes.
